Unplug and let us take care of the rest

It starts with a conversation. We take the time to understand your unique experiences and concerns, ensuring you feel heard and supported. We then provide personalized recommendations for therapy that align with your current needs and future aspirations. Our goal is to create a therapeutic environment where you can relax and focus on your healing journey, knowing that you are in compassionate and capable hands.

Somatic Practices for Nervous System Regulation

Somatic practices are essential in our therapeutic approach, helping to calm and regulate the nervous system. These techniques focus on the body’s physical sensations and movements, allowing you to release tension and build resilience. By engaging in gentle, mindful exercises that promote body awareness, you can access deeper emotional healing and reduce the physical symptoms of stress and anxiety.

By engaging in practices such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and mindful movement, you can begin to help your body find balance and ease. These practices are particularly effective in addressing trauma and chronic stress, providing you with tools to manage your responses to life's challenges. By focusing on the body, somatic practices help integrate emotional experiences and foster a sense of safety and calm.

Integrating parts

Therapy is often about bringing together different aspects of yourself that may feel fragmented or disconnected. This process, known as integration, involves understanding and harmonizing the various parts of your identity, experiences, and emotions. At Unplug Hour, we support you in exploring these different facets of yourself, helping you to recognize and embrace them.

Understanding the different (seemingly contradicting) parts of ourselves more fully, can lead to greater self-awareness and a sense of wholeness. Whether it’s reconciling conflicting emotions, healing past wounds, or aligning your actions with your values, these practices allow you to move forward with a more cohesive and empowered sense of self.

Self Compassion

Self-compassion is a cornerstone of the healing process. It involves treating yourself with kindness and understanding, especially during times of struggle or pain. At Unplug Hour, we encourage and teach self-compassion as a critical component of your mental health journey.

Our approach includes mindfulness practices that help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment. We also explore techniques for nurturing self-kindness, allowing you to respond to your own suffering with the same care and concern you would offer a friend. By cultivating self-compassion, you can develop a more positive relationship with yourself, reduce negative self-criticism, and build emotional resilience.

What you can expect from us

Frequently Asked Questions about Compassion and Somatic Counselling

  • Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) is a therapeutic approach that aims to help individuals develop self-compassion. It focuses on improving emotional regulation by promoting compassion towards oneself and others. CFT is particularly effective for those struggling with self-criticism, shame, and perfectionism.

  • Somatic therapy is a holistic approach that focuses on the connection between the mind and body. It involves body awareness techniques to help release physical tension and trauma stored in the body. This form of therapy combines traditional talk therapy with physical exercises to promote overall well-being.

One of the key benefits of osteopathy is that it helps to restore balance within the body. This can be extremely beneficial for those suffering from chronic conditions, as it can help to reduce pain and inflammation and improve mobility. In addition, osteopathy can also help to improve blood circulation and encourage lymphatic drainage, which can boost the immune system.

  • While traditional talk therapy primarily focuses on verbal communication, compassion-focused and somatic therapies incorporate additional elements:

    • CFT emphasizes developing self-compassion and emotional regulation.

    • Somatic therapy integrates body awareness and physical exercises to address trauma and physical stress.

  • In your first session, we will discuss your goals and what brings you to therapy. This initial meeting allows us to get to know each other and create a tailored treatment plan. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and express any concerns you may have.

  • Each therapy session typically lasts 50 to 60 minutes. The duration may vary depending on individual needs and the specific therapy being used.

  • The number of sessions required varies from person to person. Some clients may see improvement in just a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. We will regularly evaluate your progress to ensure you are getting the support you need.

  • We understand that unexpected circumstances may arise, and you may need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. We ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or change your session. This allows us to offer the time slot to another client in need. If less than 24 hours' notice is given, a cancellation fee may apply.

  • Compassion-focused and somatic therapies are generally covered by most insurance plans. However, coverage may vary depending on your specific plan and provider. We recommend checking with your insurance company before starting therapy to determine what services are covered.

  • Somatic therapy uses various techniques such as:

    • Deep breathing exercises

    • Mindfulness and body awareness practices

    • Movement and physical exercises

    • Grounding techniques

These methods help release physical tension and address trauma stored in the body.

  • CFT helps individuals develop a kinder and more understanding relationship with themselves. By fostering self-compassion, clients can reduce self-criticism and feelings of shame, leading to improved emotional well-being and resilience.

  • Yes, somatic therapy is particularly effective for individuals dealing with trauma. By addressing the physical manifestations of trauma, somatic therapy helps clients release tension and heal from traumatic experiences.

  • If you struggle with self-criticism, shame, or trauma, or if you're looking to improve your emotional and physical well-being, compassion-focused and somatic therapies may be right for you. Schedule a consultation to discuss your needs and determine the best approach for your situation.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or if you're ready to book your first session. We're here to support you on your therapeutic journey.
